Homemade Spicy Chicken & French Fries aka Macdonald style

Why "Macdonald style" Spicy Chicken & French Fries?

My kids love Macdonald and due to current MCO(Movement Control Order) in Malaysia because of Covid-19, they have not been eating Macdonald's for quite some time. They requested me to make chicken burger and french fries.

I followed some guidelines from 'sifus' on You Tube and i dont have certain spices or ingredients that suggested from these sifus. i invented my own recipe.

What i learned from this recipe creation?

i am not a good cook before MCO was implemented. I have been cooking for almost 3 weeks since MCO has been started. I could say cooking is not that really hard. It is whether you enjoy cooking or creating something new.

To me, i love to make my children happy and enjoy cooking. I love to explore different kind of food as well.

The ingredients?

For 3 people:

French Fries:

Just take about 3 potatoes , peel it and cut into strips (thick ), soak with cold water and put in the fridge for about 15 mins. Remove the water after 15 mins, and pat the potatoes to dry with oil absorbing cooking papers. you can season the potatoes with salt, sugar, pepper and some cayenne pepper.(some says to put some corn flour to make the potatoes more crispier)

Heat up the wok, when you see smoke coming out from the wok, add oil. let the oil sits till it gets really hot (you would see smokes coming out from the oil), start putting the potatoes in the wok. fry till brownish. When it is ready to serve, you could just sprinkle some salt on top of it.

* If you use the same wok, please wash it clean and heat it up again, or else the chicken would stick onto the wok and everything would be ruined.

The chickens (3 chicken thighs):

To be honest, i did not know the outcome was quite good because i just simply 'taruh' with whatever ingredients i have in the kitchen. i marinate the chicken pieces with one egg, soya sauce and chilli sauce as shown below. Keep it aside for about 15 mins.  When it is ready to fry, heat up the oil like how you do it with the fries.  Get ready a bowl of flour (1 cup of plain flour and 2 cups of corn flour) and some herb powders such as thyme leaves, oregano leaves, cayenne pepper and black pepper(or whatever herb powders you have in the kitchen) and mix them up. Dip the marinated chickens in the flour before you 'bath' them with hot oil.

Fry them till brownish.
it is a highly recommended chilli sauce if you like your food to be spicy. I even cook fried rice or noodle with this sauce as well. Please give it a try.

My boys really want to have canned drinks and i allowed him but with small glasses. Overall, they did not complain about the small glasses but they were happy with the food and enjoyed them so much.

I would rate the taste hmmm.... about 9/10 (as given by my boys , one 8 y.o and 10 y.o) In summary, be dare to try out if you have the heart to explore in cooking. you would definitely have the first failure in everything but if you do not give up and have supporters like my kids, you will definitely succeed.

Please take note to those new bies in cooking:

When you fry something, always remember to keep the wok hot before putting oil. Before starting to fry, always remember to wait the oil to get really hot and your meat has to be 'dry' to avoid the hot oil splashes onto you. i use the wok cover as my 'shield' occasionally. Do not feel shy to protect yourself!! Happy trying!
